I am currently a sophomore at University of Houston. I attended Texas State University for one semester then transferred back home to be with my family. While at Texas State i was apart of an amazing organization called Latinas Unidas, an organization that promoted the togetherness of latin women. I was also a lifestyle reporter for the University Star, the campus newspaper. Transitioning was tough, but once i get fully accustomed to my new campus, i will get involved in various clubs/organizations that suit me. I major in Print Journalism and have not yet decided on a minor. Growing up, all my parents did was push me to attend college, for they never got the opportunity to pursue an education passed middle school. I want to take advantages of the opportunities i have been granted, and obtain a degree. I have an immense passion for writing. I strive to one day be a writer for the Houston Press or Houston Chronicle, or even be a personality for a radio station here in Houston and have the ability to represent my fellow Mexican-American women in the media workforce. As a first generation college student, i desire to be involved with others like myself. While being apart of SWAG, i want to be able to showcase my persistence in education and provide insight on my aspirations and experiences as a college student.
