Reyna Valdez is a first generation college student, currently a senior at the University of Houston-Downtown double majoring in Biotechnology and Biological and Physical Sciences, with minors in Spanish, chemistry biology and microbiology. She aspires to become a surgeon, and own a private clinic so she can serve the Latino community and those who can’t afford proper medical care. She has engaged in numerous student organizations where she has had leadership positions, as well as perform cancer research for the last 3 years, which led to several poster presentations and a recent publication. Also during the summer of 2016 she was named as a Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) Scholar. She enjoys being a SWAG to college mentor/translator so that she can help and encourage students to stay motivated and obtain a college education.
