Co-Director of Essay Program
I am a junior at Brown University double concentrating in Religious Studies and Philosophy, and will be spending this year abroad in England at the University of Oxford. I am a first-generation, low-income student from northern California. For me, the college application process was super overwhelming. I grew up living with my older brother and didn't realize that I wanted to attend college until my junior year of high school. Neither of us were familiar with colleges outside of our region of California, nor were we aware of how many steps were involved in the application process. Thanks to my brother's help (and countless hours of google searching and reading blogs like College Confidential) I made it through the process. But I can't help but wish that I had had a program like SWAG to guide me through it. I strongly believe that the work that SWAG is doing is making a difference by removing, or at least mitigating, barriers that students of color, first-generation and low-income students, and students with low resources face throughout high school and in the college application process. Because I believe that education should be accessible to all, I am passionate about helping students achieve their educational goals.
