The purpose of Global Guides are to participate in on-campus events, mentor students about the learning abroad opportunities available to them, and assist those who work for the learning abroad office. With this, i have the ability to help students who may be confused about where they can go, and what courses and programs they can apply for. I can also inform others of the various scholarship opportunities they can take advantage of to fund their trip abroad. I didn’t know these Global Guides existed when i was in preparation to go to France. If i had known, maybe i could have applied for some scholarships, in which i completely regret not doing. I don’t want my peers to make the same mistakes i did. I want everyone to know, if interested in studying or interning abroad, that they have several forms of financial assistance available to them. I will also be able to provide first-hand information on my experiences abroad, such as what it was like traveling alone for the first time, what it was like living with a host family, adjusting to a shift in culture, etc. I know studying abroad is a big leap in comfort for some people, but i want to stress the fact that it is a transformative experience that everyone, if possible, should live out once in their lifetime. I’m grateful to have been able to go on a trip so grand, that i will do everything in my power to encourage those who may have doubts and hesitations.
