However, I realized I needed to start truly working on myself first in order to make college a place where I can be as happy and productive as possible. I needed to change my habits over time and start structuring my days, because shifts in behavior don’t occur overnight. I needed to stop doing the same things over and over again and expecting the same results. I needed to analyze my flaws and figure out how I would get over them.
As someone who has suffered from anxiety since childhood, I wanted to break free and gain some control over my life. With baby steps, I found that small changes such as starting off my day with something that makes me happy can make a huge difference for how I feel for the rest of my day.
Simple Self Care Practices:
- Reading something you don’t want to put down
- Adult Coloring Books
- Meditation (There are plenty of apps or guided meditation videos on YouTube.)
- In General: Staying Away from Processed Foods
Despite getting into my dream school, college this upcoming semester will not be perfect, because nothing is. I might not meet my best friend for life in the first week or even year. I might miss my mom sometimes, although she can be a handful. I might question my decision, and I might want to complain. It won’t all be parallel to Rory from Gilmore Girl’s experience at Yale. Nevertheless, I am savoring life’s great moments, doing my best, and remaining optimistic for a better tomorrow.
