I identify as straight, yet I have always considered myself an ally of the LGBT community. You don't have to be an LGBTQ member to advocate, support, and speak up for their rights, but one thing I do recommend is that you put in the effort to learn more of their history. By doing so, you can comprehend exactly why there was such a push for equal rights and why the past efforts of the LGBTQ community are of great significance today. I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn of such important fragments of history and hope to utilize this expansion of understanding to strengthen my stance as an LGBTQ ally.
If you are intrigued in learning more about how you can become a true, genuine ally to the LGBTQ community, you can read this piece by Carlos Maza, writer, and video producer.
