But it’s important to remember that on the road to a great future the present day also matters. Besides the numerous health risks of chronic stress, when we enjoy our youth we give ourselves good memories to look back on with friends and loved ones.
Of course, balancing school and jobs and sometimes chores/childcare can make the idea of free time feel laughable.
One good way to make to make time for fun is to use the downtime of simple chores. There’s lot of time we waste while doing laundry, eating meals, and walking to and from places. This time can be filled with fun activities like podcasts, an episode of a TV show, or a hobby like crocheting and writing.
Another way to relax if you’re very pressed for time is to spend fifteen minutes meditating before bed. Using an app like Headspace can help you calm down after a long day and take a much-needed breather.
Finally, the most important thing you can do is spend time with family and friends. These are the people who will always be there for you and care about you through everything, and you can have fun while strengthening your bonds and showing appreciation. Even if your friend time takes the form of a study group or a family volunteering effort.
Hopefully some of these ideas can be useful to you as you seek greater balance for your life.
