From a young age I was always obsessed with creating lists. Some might call me a little “OCD”, but I believe that it is just the over thinking, imaginative, and anxious inner Gemini in me that craves the need for organization. On average, I would say that I always keep four to five lists with me in my notebook or planner, because I need to constantly be reassured by my own lists. They are reminders which help to provide my spazztic brain some structure.
1. Goals and Self Improvement
My list of goals help to keep me motivated and focused on what it is I really want out of life. My lists are always changing, but currently I would include things like do more weightlifting, read more for enjoyment, or try to meditate or utilize adult coloring books for reducing anxiety.
As a broke student, this list is essential! I keep a list of my budget for toiletries, because personal care products do get quite expensive. I know many girls who splurge on products at Kiehl's or Sephora, but sticking to your quality staples will allow for you to not overspend. The same applies for clothing too. In general, it's good to keep a physical journal of the money you’ve spent too, because you’ll be able to reflect and think about each purchase you have made or will make.
4. Creative ideas
You never know when you will be sitting on a city bus on a cold winter night in a magical city when a flood of emotions after an amazing first date or terrible break-up spark your creative juices. I keep a list of all my short film plots. I might need them one day. You never know when Judd Apatow might offer me my own HBO show.
5. Daily Tasks
Everybody needs to keep a list of their daily tasks. These can go in your day-to-day planner. Daily tasks are usually things I will be procrastinating such as laundry or studying, but with the reinforcing power of the list at least I can feel some urgency to get things done.
